Welcome back today we are going to get a very important Market Research lesson.

This is probable the most important lesson of the “Order of the Phoenix” series and it comes from Fred and George Weasley.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Harry Potter series, let me set the scene for you.

Fred and George have just returned to Hogwart’s for the start of their sixth year. Their all important OWLS (Junior high school year’s) were completed the year before, and they were keen to leave school and start a joke shop. But they go back to finish off their senior year as they don’t think their Mum won’t cope if they don’t. However they have decided to make the best of the situation and do some market research for their joke shop.

Lets let J.K.Rowling take over and explain this lesson further.

“We’re not going to waste our last year here, though, Said Fred, looking affectionately around the great hall. We’re going to use it to do a bit of market research, find out exactly what the average Hogwarts student requires from a joke shop, carefully evaluate the results of our research, then produce products to to fit the demand.”

Mmmm find out what your target market want’s, evaluate the results, produce products to fit the demand.

Sounds like a plan for success to me, if you never spent a cent on your marketing education (not something I would recommend BTW) and just followed these simple principles, you would be so far in front of the game that you wouldn’t have any choice but to be successful!!!

All we need now to get started with our top business ideas is an information product! But I don’t know how to create an information product Beanie I hear you say, and besides I don’t have the time!! Well that is the beauty of  the Internet Marketing Success Library inside is everything you will need to know to quickly create your own information product.

Bob has done such an exceptional job of putting together “5 Easy Steps To Record Your First Teleseminar Before The End Of Today”. That even a boilermaker who failed Art dismally and barely passed English could do it.

Now Beanie I hear you say how on earth can you substantiate a claim like that. All boilermakers do is heat, bash and weld steel!!

I know because I am that boilermaker!!! I joined the Internet Marketing Success Library and followed the “5 Easy Steps To Record Your First Teleseminar Before The End Of Today”. But then I did something really strange, I actually followed the instructions in that report and created an information product.

Well that wrap’s up today’s lesson, tomorrow we are going back to Hogwarts again for a lesson from Dumbledore about giving and trust.

This series of post has been sitting on my hard drive for far to long! The point is blogging is a habit and so is pushing the PUBLISH button. Anyway enough rambling time to get into……..

Some marketing lesson’s from the “Order of the Phoenix”

My main aim with this series is to convince you of the value that developing a new habit can have on your business, regardless of whether yours is a traditional bricks and mortar business or an online business.

By sharing with you the benefit’s I have gained from my new habit, my hope is that you will be inspired to create your own new habit.

This goes back to my school days, I was the type of student that gave teachers like Bob a good reason to go and start an internet business to get away from teaching LOL. My best subjects were the practical related one’s like; metalwork, woodwork and sports.

If the subject had anything to do with being creative or writing like Art or English,I just wasn’t interested. I never ever read books that were non fiction, I just didn’t see the point!! If the story wasn’t real then it didn’t mean anything to me.

My wife and kids had been Harry Potter fans since it’s first inception, and had been constantly nagging, oops sorry I mean trying to persuade me to read the books as well. Without much luck I might add!!

I am not sure exactly how long ago it was, it would be around 12 months ago at a guess. I was reading the “Four Hour Work Week” by Timothy Ferris, something real and practical (I don’t read non fiction remember). Anyway in the “Four Hour Work Week” Tim talks about the benefits of reading science fiction (his habit), damn I thought I am going to have to admit defeat and read at least one of those Harry Potter books.

The reason Tim convinced me that I had to read non fiction was simply because, reading non fiction was a habit that he used to get a certain result.The old saying is very true “Success Always Leaves Clues”. If you find someone that is already achieving what you want to achieve, study what they are doing, form the same habits they are using, but and this is a big but, do it in your own unique way.

So by simply forming the habit of someone who was already successful, and applying it to my business this series has been the result. Reading isn’t the habit that we want to talk about for you though. The habit we want you to form starting today is creating information products. And the reason we want to do that is? That’s right…. It is a habit Bob has formed, and as I quoted earlier “Success Always Leaves Clue’s”.

Before I wrap up for today, I want you to take this one small practical step towards forming your new information creation habit. If you haven’t already make sure you sign up for the Internet Marketing Success Library, and start looking at the habit’s that Bob has such as creating information product’s.

At the local library today I came across a book by Pat Mesiti…

The $1 Million Reason To Change Your Mind.

Before I go any further let me give you a little warning!! Pat doesn’t pull any punches when he writes or speaks. I know this from experience as I have listened to him speak both live and on audio recordings.

If you like to make excuses and feel sorry for yourself then Pat isn’t the sort of bloke you are going to like!! However if you want to know what you need to change in your life, presented in a no bullshit straight to the point sort of way. Race out and get a copy now!!!

Anyway as I became engrossed in the first seven chapter this afternoon, the first chapter where Pat talks about viruses of the mind really hit home .

It was quite fitting actually as I arrived at the library I logged into foursquare and sent out a message…

“Time to find some brain food”

It’s amazing what your brain will find when you have told it what to look for. Don’t believe me?? Then let me run this simple scenario past you.

Have you ever been looking for a Cd and you have a clear picture of what the cover looks like in your mind, you look up and down your Cd rack but you can’t see it. You know it is in there because you just put it back in last night. So you you go through you Cd collection again one by one reading the names on the covers.

There it is right in front of you,how could you have missed it? You missed it because the picture you had in your mind was incorrect and your brain didn’t register the Cd when it saw it. So why did your brain miss it?? Your brain missed it because you had given it the wrong picture to look for.

The same is true in life, we may say we want one thing but these virus in our minds create a different picture of what we actually think we should have. For example we may say that we want financial security, but the picture we create in our mind may not be congruent with this desire. Possible because of some of the following viruses of the mind that we may have picked up as early as childhood.

Have a read through them and see how many you have been told or heard that you still sub-consciously believe.

• The rich are greedy
• We can’t afford it
• Money is the root of all evil
• Money won’t make you happy
• Life wasn’t meant to be easy
• You will never amount to anything

I am sure you will also have a number of your own to add, once you start to really think about it. That is why it is vitally important to spend some time creating a clear concise picture of what you want in life so that your brain can seek out ways for you to achieve your needs, wants and desires.

A great way I find of doing this is to get a big sheet of cardboard and then cut out pictures from magazines, of the things you need, want and desire. Put it in a prominent place in your home so that your brain and subconscious mind are working on solutions to help you attain these items.

Seriously try it!! Which boot do you put on first when you get dressed? Whether it is the left or the right it doesn’t matter, the point is you will always do it the same way because it is a HABIT.

Now we all know that habit’s can be good or bad, and the main reason behind this post is that I had developed a habit (Well almost I didn’t quite reach 21 days in a row which seems to be the magical number for developing a habit) of blogging or creating online content every day.

But something happened called life and I broke this almost habit, due to a number of different circumstances!
That’s not so bad I hear you say just pick up where you left off Adam and start again. Easy right? That was what I thought!!

The trouble is that it wasn’t just the habit that I had started to form that was so valuable it was also the momentum from the continual practice of blogging every day. As I sat down to write a new post for my business blog on Monday, I quickly realized that I wasn’t blog fit anymore, in that I wasn’t able to just sit and quickly punch out a suitable post. It was quite painful how long it has taken me to try and finish that post. Actually it still isn’t done.

Before for I went to sleep last night, I was reading (Another habit) Psycho-Cybernetics which explained the value of good habits, and had this little exercise to help develop a good habit.

When you put your boots on tomorrow morning do it the opposite way to how you would normally do it. This is to serve as a reminder to you that you need to spend some time during the day working on whatever new habit it is that will improve your world.

So this is my challenge to you, the same challenge that I am currently undertaking. Put your boots on the opposite way to which you you normally would, and spend some time thinking about the new habit you are going to create.

This will be our little project for the next 21 days!!! To help you keep on track post your habit in the comments section so that we can hold each other accountable.

What is the quickest way to build a successful business ???

Just become a Super Model!!!

I know what you are thinking, Adam has really lost his mind this time!! How on earth are you suppose to become a super model??

Well the good news is it is actually a lot easier than you think. Usually when we start talking about super model’s our minds conjure up images such as the girl to the right here.

But that isn’t the type of super model I am referring too. So what exactly are you referring to then Adam I hear you ask??

When I say you need to become a super model what I mean is that you need to find someone successful that has already achieved what you want to achieve, and then model their habits.

Now why would you want to do this?? Because success leaves clues. Successful business owners have successful habits, so if you employ those same habits guess what?? The odds of you being successful increase dramatically.

There is no need to waste countless hours trying to reinvent the wheel. Just find a wheel that someone else has already invented and adapt it to your business.

You do however want your business to be uniquely about you. So don’t try and copy someone else or try to become exactly like them, be yourself  just model the habits of the successful person you choose.

You are very unique and have your own personality that is going to appeal to your target market. All you want to do is adopt a great role model’s success habits so that you start seeing the results that you want quickly.

So lets see how you can put this into action. I am going to use Bob the Teacher Jenkins as an example, as Bob already has a successful online business similar to what I am working towards building. I have learnt a great deal from his Internet Marketing Success Library and  from observing what he does on his blog.

From visiting Bob’s blog and from interviewing him I have learnt the following successful habits.

• Creating information products.
• Starting a Ustreamtv show.
• Starting a blog talk radio show.
• Posting relevant quality information on my blog.

If you check out Bob’s blog you will notice how even though I have modeled my business on Bob’s, I have still remained myself  and created my own unique brand of information.

I am a boilermaker by trade and have never shied away from that fact, it is part of my story and part of what makes me unique to the readers of my blog. So who are you going to choose to help you become a super model?

So lets just do a quick recap on the #Failweek second post before we get right into today’s. What we had a look at was… The Magnificent Symphony in Four Parts which told us we needed to consider the following four crucial points….

1. Market Research
2. Traffic
3. Conversion
4. Product

Let me start off by saying that it is impossible to give you all the exact details you will need to fully utilize the magnificent symphony in four parts in one post, however if you follow these simple steps your odds of succeeding first time will be far greater than mine were.

For a more in depth explanation of the strategies you should use, I highly recommend you check out the Thirty Day Challenge’s free online marketing training. Let me reiterate this point I don’t get paid to promote the Thirty Day Challenge, no one does!!!!

So first we need to find an actual Market to Research, so the best thing to do is start with one of your own interests that you are passionate about. If you are still stuck for an idea head over to amazon.com

Once you are at amazon.com select the magazine section (as you can see highlighted in purple) and select crafts and hobbies. There is a very good reason we select magazine for our research. It’s because magazines are expensive to produce. So if a magazine has been around for a while, it is because enough copies are being sold to sustain it. In other words there  is a market interested in the topic we have chosen!!

Which is exactly what we are looking for!!! Remember this important point…

It is far quicker and easier to find a market that is already spending money then produce products that better fill their needs, than it is to create a product first and then try and find a market for it!!!

Looking through the magazines section fine woodcraft jumps out at me as a possible great Niche that interests me. So now I have found my Market time to see if the numbers stack up.

Very quickly the basis for the whole Thirty Day Challenge is to, find a micro niche that you can quickly test to see if there is a market already spending money on products.

What I am looking for is four key phrases that receive at least 80 searches per day each. And each one of these key phrases I want to have less than 30.000 competing pages so that I can quickly rank for them, which means free Traffic.

I use Market Samurai to do my research as it will let me put the exact parameters I want for my key phrases and quickly collect me the data I need to know. The keyword I entered to search on was “Fine Woodworking”(highlighted in purple). Highlighted in red are the areas where I set my search parameters which are…

1. Traffic (SEOT) 80
2. PBR 15
3. Competing pages (SEOC) 30,000

You can see in the purple highlighted area we came up with the key phrase “custom wood furniture” which fits within the search parameters I set. Now that is a good start but we still don’t know exactly what people want to know about customer wood furniture. So lets head over to google and search the phrase “custom wood furniture”. As I suspected the capture below shows that custom wood furniture shops show up at the top of the google for this term.

Unless we own or want to start a physical custom wood furniture shop, this phrase isn’t of much use to us. On a side note can you see how if you are a physical shop owner, this is a great way to build your presence online? By simple targeting a Micro Niche with low competition like custom wood furniture.

Back we go to market samurai again this time we are going to use the key phrase “wood working how to”.
The results this time are much different and are exactly what we are looking for!!! What we used to call pay dirt when I was an Opal Miner!!!!!!!!!!

Six key phrases that fit within our parameters, now we have the following to work with…

1. A  Market “Wood Working Plans”
2. Traffic we know that from our key phrase research

We still need to test the conversion, to make sure this market is spending money, before we go creating our product. How are we going to do that???

This is where your knowledge and passion on the subject come into the equation. What we are going to do is set up a wordpress blog and start posting about “Wood Working Plans”, and add an appropriate affiliate program to our blog. With the aim to test if  this traffic will purchase a product. Then if all goes to plan we will create our own wood working plans product.

I know I have left out a lot of the fine details in this process, but the point of this post was to give you a general overview of how to set a business up properly. I sincerely hope that you have gained some insights into how you could start your own online business using the Magnificent Symphony in Four Parts.
